Xypex is a non-toxic, chemical treatment for the waterproofing and protection of concrete. Xypex's primary and most distinguishing performance feature is its unique ability to generate a non-soluble crystalline formation deep within the pores and capillary tracts of the concrete - a crystalline structure that permanently seals the concrete against the penetration of water and other liquids from any direction.
Xypex crystalline products are dry powder compounds composed of portland cement, silica sand and many active, proprietary chemicals.

Millbrook Dam: Adelaide, SA, Australia

millbrook_lrgAfter construction of the new spillway at Millbrook Dam it was decided that the first three sections poured required extra protection.

The durability of the structure was the issue of primary concern. SA Water and Bardavcol concluded that the best option to gain the required durabilty for the structure was to use Xypex.

The coating system of Xypex Concentrate and Megamix I was used on the internal face of the spillway wall, and Xypex Concentrate and Xypex Modified on the external face of the spillway. These systems where chosen due to known capabilities of Xypex proprietary chemicals.

These active chemicals react with the moisture in concrete and with the by-products of cement hydration to cause a catalytic reaction. This reaction generates a non-soluble crystalline formation throughout the pores and capillary tracts of the concrete that permanently seals the concrete
