North at Lighter Quays: Auckland, New Zealand
North at Lighter Quays was the first block of top quality apartments replacing the America's Cup team home bases in the Viaduct Basin, Auckland.
The site was originally the 'Logfarm' where treated pine logs were stored prior to being shipped overseas.
2028kg of Xypex Admix C-1000NF was used as the primary waterproofing product and 603m of Kuniseal C-31 applied to all associated construction joints. This waterproofing system was used in the precast lift shafts, basement floor slabs, precast panel walls and in-situ cast stitch joints.
Xypex was chosen due to its ability to protect steel rebar from corrosion in a marine environment, provide a complete waterproofing system subject to tidal pressures and provide durability with the variable pH of the contaminated reclaimed fill in the area.
Due to the concerns of uplift, another benefit of using Xypex was the ability to terminate the pile caps in the floor slab to tie the basement down without having to worry about piercing a membrane.
