Rail Culvert Repair Qld
Rail Bridge Culvert Repair
The Grandchester culvert was approximately 30 years old and was exhibiting spalling defects, evident mainly on the inside of the barrels and towards the outside edges. The steel coverage averaged 10mm to 15mm, the culvert comprised of 72 x 6 barrels.
The applicator, National Concrete Solutions, had to scabble back to competent concrete without penetrating too far into the roof, expose the steel mesh, rehabilitate it and coat it with Xypex Concentrate to re-alkalize the steel reinforcing. The repair was then patched with Xypex Megamix II high build mortar. An additional coating of Xypex Concentrate was applied to the intersection of the patch and competent concrete to maximise the crystalline benefits of Xypex.
This repair can be considered as a typical "medium" repair for a precast culvert.
