Xypex is a non-toxic, chemical treatment for the waterproofing and protection of concrete. Xypex's primary and most distinguishing performance feature is its unique ability to generate a non-soluble crystalline formation deep within the pores and capillary tracts of the concrete - a crystalline structure that permanently seals the concrete against the penetration of water and other liquids from any direction.

Xypex Provide Solution for Concrete Bridge Repair

Constructed over 45 years ago, a road bridge in regional NSW required remediation works to rectify previous repair attempts and to address concrete deterioration, evident through spalling defects.

bridge-rails1An inspection was requested by the local council authority for Xypex to complete a condition report and provide a remedial solution. The Xypex spalling repair system was selected by the council to rectify the affected areas and provide a long-term, successful repair solution.

Remediation works on the bridge commenced with preparation of affected areas. Spalled sections on the bridge were prepared with a minimum 10mm saw cut and scabbled back behind the reinforcement, ensuring a solid substrate was achieved. This was followed by high-pressure water blasting affected areas. Once the steel reinforcement was cleaned it was then treated with Xypex Concentrate, to provide a passive alkaline barrier around the steel.

Xypex Concentrate is the most chemically active product within the Xypex crystalline waterproofing system and is applied as a cementitious slurry coat to above ground or below ground concrete, either as a single coat or as the first of a two-coat application.

Upon completion of the Xypex Concentrate application, treated areas were returned to contour with Xypex Megamix II. Xypex Megamix II is a high performance repair mortar. Xypex Megamix II has been specifically formulated to produce superior bond, low shrinkage, chemical durability and high strength. It is a one component mortar and can be either sprayed or trowel applied at a thickness of 10 mm to 50 mm.

To provide additional long term concrete durability, a Xypex Concentrate surface coating was subsequently applied to repaired areas to promote crystalline growth and to provide additional concrete protection

The Xypex spalling repair solution is also suitable for scenarios where moisture is present. In this situation, Xypex Patch n Plug is used to halt the flow of water.
