In July 2005, the Urban Redevelopment Authority formally announced that Marina Bay would become the new marketing brand name for new developments extending to the central business district in the Marina South area. Developments around Marina Bay are expected to further support Singapore’s continuing growth as a major business, financial and lifestyle hub in the region.

Through Xypex Australia’s Singapore distributor – Jingslink Marketing Pte Ltd - Xypex has been a very intimate part of the developments at the bay. This includes the iconic Esplanade – Theatres On The Bay (an extensive underground pedestrian mall linking Raffles City MRT Station to Marina Square and Suntec City, the Citylink Mall) and the recently completed prestigious address in the Central Business District - One Raffles Quay - a commercial and retail complex with an underground pedestrian mall.

Xypex Admix C-Series was dosed in the entire base slab under the theatres at the Esplanade – Theatres On The Bay (Phase 2) project, by Penta-Ocean Construction Co., Ltd. The basement was the most critical structure in this project as it houses valuable state-of-the-art equipment intended to facilitate the “Sydney Opera House of Singapore”. Xypex Admix C-Series was chosen as the standalone waterproofing treatment to the base slab which is subjected to high hydrostatic pressure from the bay. Xypex also provides added protection to the slab against harmful chloride and sulphate attack. All construction joints to the slab were treated with Xypex Concentrate. The basement was completed in 1998 with outstanding success to date.

The floating concrete tunnel design of the Citylink Mall was also entirely protected with Xypex Admix C-Series in the base slab, roof slab and walls. Construction joints were treated with a slurry coat of Xypex Concentrate and a hydrophilic waterstop. The mall was opened in 2001 and the success of Xypex product is evident.
One Raffles Quay – the new prestigious complex, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, consists of the 50-storey North Tower and the 29-storey South Tower. The total floor area of the office towers combined is 148,000 square metres. The complex incorporates a podium block, a hub car park and a 4,180 square meter subterranean retail mall which is linked to the Raffles Place MRT Station. Xypex Admix C-Series was dosed into the concrete basement slab and walls, with construction joints treated with Xypex Concentrate as the standalone joint waterproofing treatment. Xypex Admix C-Series was also layered at the foundation base slab, with an additional drainage system at the diaphragm/skin walls design. The building was completed in the third quarter of 2006.

In all of the three projects by the bay, the Xypex “Concrete Waterproofing by Crystallization” ™ system was chosen for its superior waterproofing ability under extreme hydrostatic pressure, as well as its ability to enhance the general durability of concrete.
