When we asked Josh what he was most passionate about at work he stated, “new opportunities or challenges, learning and helping others”. These passions are clearly shown through Josh’s journey here with Xypex Australia. Starting as a Manufacturing Assistant in Head Office, Josh worked his way to Manufacturing Manager and finally to his current role of Regional Operations and Logistics Manager.

Outside of work Josh enjoys sports, playing for his local Cricket team, gardening, he has a Cert III in Landscape Constructions, and travelling. He recently bought a caravan which they hope to take away and explore the places of Australia they would not normally visit.

Concrete cracking within sewage and wastewater structures needs to be rectified as soon as possible to avoid any further and future deterioration within the concrete.

In a test, concrete panels were cast, then cracked by force, and then subjected to the ponding of water to measure the flow of water through the cracks. After 4 days, the 0.38mm crack on the Xypex treated sample had stopped leaking completely, compared to the 0.25mm sample treated crack, which continued to leak after 25 days.

Protecting concrete in a highly acidic environment can be challenging. The production of hydrogen sulphide that causes microbial induced corrosion in sewage conditions can lead to severe concrete deterioration and a reduced service life of these crucial assets.

Xypex Bio-San C500 is a unique way of protecting concrete in harsh sewage conditions. No other admixture combines potent antimicrobial properties with Xypex crystalline waterproofing technology, to offer complete protection of concrete sewer and wastewater structures. Cement mortar samples containing Xypex were subjected to 5% sulphuric acid for up to 12 weeks. Compared to untreated control samples, the weight loss caused by acid attack was reduced by 48%. In a further test on a 30% fly-ash mortar, the weight loss was reduced to 53%.
